Species protection

Species protection applies to the most valuable, unique and rare flora and fauna species. In Poland there are 584 plant species, 90 fungus species and 732 animal species under strict species protection. 65% of wild flora and fauna species in Poland are forest species.

There are 54 protected plant species within the area of Lipinki Forest District. 38 species are strictly protected species and 16 are under partial protection.

Five species have been included on the Polish Red List of Plants:

  • Elatine hexandra,

  • Nymphaea candida,

  • Pilularia globulifera,

  • Rhynchospora fusca,

  • European Yew.

Lipinki Forest District is home to 100 protected species of animals, including 27 species included on the Polish Red List of Animals. The List includes 6 species of invertebrate, 11 species of fish, 1 species of amphibian, 2 species of reptiles, 5 species of birds and 2 species of mammals.

Scolia hirtais a fine example of rare and interesting species that lives in dry and sunny habitats located on loose soils, such as borders of pine forests or dry meadows.

The Forest District is also habitat for protected species of reptiles, the most important being: Smooth Snake, Common Adder, Alpine Newt, Natterjack Toad and European Fire-bellied Toad.
